The Department of Education and Arts (DEA) needed to identify key success factors in Queensland’s preparatory year and, to examine the effects of the preparatory year on progress of children in five development domains. The project developed out of international interest in two areas: a perceived need to address a civic deficit, particularly among young people and a requirement to spark national interest in developing the capacity of universities to contribute to regional and community wellbeing in economic, social and cultural terms.

Eidos took on the challenge of answering the question of whether the Gulf Region is heading towards a Human Capital Crisis.
The region has a heavy reliance on foreign workers and public sector employment, low local labour force participation, low female workforce participation and a mismatch between skills delivered to Emirati nationals by the education system and that required in the labour market. In order to provide solutions to these challenges, the Kingdom of Bahrain is taking measure to reshape itself with three key reforms - economic, labour market and educational system- informed by evidence-based research contained in this project.

The focus of the research reported in this paper was to identify the geographical spread of economic impacts from the resources sector across Queensland. The results of the analysis demonstrate that incomes and expenditures from the resources sectors are widely distributed across the state, and generate significant flow-on effects. It is notable that the industry makes a strong direct contribution in many of the more remote areas of Queensland, helping to underpin economic conditions in those regions. Expenditure from the resources industry has indirect impacts on the business environment in many areas, and generates substantial levels of production in south-east Queensland and central Queensland in particular.

In 1998-99, at the time that the Pathways to Prevention program, or Pathways for short, was being planned, the rate of juvenile court appearances of adolescents resident in the Pathways area was nearly 8 times the rate for the Brisbane metropolitan area.

The program sought to take research theory on ‘what works’ in preventing crime and promoting positive youth development, and apply it in practice.

When Australia’s tertiary publishers wanted to investigate in detail that role that the print and digital textbooks that they publish played in current university learning they naturally turned to researchers at Central Queensland.

The research was carried out in 2010 and provided the initial study for an ARC Linkage Application in Round 2, 2011 on Identifying the factors which influence university students and course coordinators selecting commercial and non commercial learning resources.

The 10,000 Steps project aims to increase the day-to-day activity of Australians by encouraging using a step-counting pedometer to accumulate “incidental” physical activity as part of everyday living. Significant health and well being benefits can be made simply by taking 10,000 Steps everyday. The project has been successful in motivating local communities, workplaces and individuals to increase their physical activity levels. Our website currently has about 180,000 registered 10,000 Steps users.
